The Gracia-Smith Residence
A new build home for Mr. and Mrs. Garcia-Smith, in the Texas Hill Country area. Mr. and Mrs. Garcia Smith are a married couple in their late 60’s. Mr. Garcia-Smith is a retired History Professor, that is of Hispanic Decent and values his cultural heritage greatly. Mrs. Garcia-Smith is a retired Jazz Musician; she comes from Caribbean roots, that heavily influence her sense of aesthetics and love for music. They require a study area for Mr. Garcia-Smith, dedicated music room for Mrs. Garcia-Smith, and spacious and inviting living and dining area; as the host family gatherings. The Garcia-Smith Family wants an aging in place home, where they can practice their hobbies, host family gatherings, and be able to feel at home in a safe and welcoming environment that makes them feel at home.

Concept Statement:
A well-known quote once said, “Uno vuelve siempre a los viejos sitios donde amo a la vida,” which states “You always return to the place where you loved life.” The Garcia-Smith Home will repatriate the many wonderful cultural and natural elements into their home design, initially creating a place where they will love to come back to. Incorporating natural elements and windows will provide the feeling of wellness, calmness, and the use of natural sunlight throughout the home. Integrating cultural elements will be mimicked in the form of art, colors, and different lines to represent their cultural background. The Garcia-Smith family will feel at home in a safe and comfortable place, that they are able to share both similar and personal interest as long as they both shall live.
